Erasmus+ is the new EU programme for education,
training, youth and sport.
Erasmus+ (Key Action 1) started on 1 January 2014 and replaces previous funding programmes run by the European Commission in the area of the Lifelong Learning Programme. This programme will run from 2014-2020.
The programme includes three key actions:
- Key action 1 - Learning mobility for individuals
- Key action 2 - cooperation for the support of innovation and the exchange of well-established practices
- Key action 3 - Political reform support
Erasmus+ has a budget of approximately €14.8 billion. By 2020, more than four million people will have benefited from the EU funds. The current seven-year programme is designed to improve skills and employability while also modernising the systems for education and job training and advancing services for children and youth.

Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals is all about providing opportunities for individuals to improve their skills, enhance their employability and gain cultural awareness. Students of IUBH School of Business and Management are able to spend a period of time in another participating country gaining valuable experience with the aim of increasing professional opportunities in the future.
Every Higher Education Institution (HEI) participating in the ERASMUS+ programme must have been awarded an ERASMUS+ University Charter (EUC) by the EU Commission. The Charter is proof that a higher education institution has fulfilled all the requirements to successfully take part in the ERASMUS Programme.
The ERASMUS+ programme covers funding for the following mobility instruments:
- Student Mobility for Studies (SMS)
- Student Mobility for Placements (SMP)
- Staff Teaching Assignments (STA)
- Staff Training Assignments (STT)
ERASMUS+ Programme – The Basics
IUBH School of Business and Management is holder of the ERASMUS+ Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 (ECHE) under the Horizon 2020 Programme.
As an ECHE holder, IUBH School of Business and Management can make annual bids for mobility funding to the National Agency, which administers the programme in the respective programme countries. In Germany the German Academic Exchange Service - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) manages the programme and gives guidance to all participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The bids and funding granted are based among other factors on anticipated mobilities and past performance.
Mobilities can be funded within existing Inter-Institutional Agreements (IIAs) ie. the exchange of staff and students can only be administered and supported through this programme if both involved institutions are holders of the required ECHE and have signed a bilateral agreement outlining and defining the scope (eg level and area of study, type and number of exchanges) of the exchange activities.
The IUBH International Office manages the agreements with ERASMUS+ partner institutions based upon which most up-to-date information about viability of an envisaged outgoing mobility within the programme for any given academic year can be given. First point of contact for any such activity should therefore always be the International Office of IUBH School of Business and Management.
ERASMUS+ Student Mobility participants
- Must be enrolled as regular, fulltime students at IUBH School of Business and Management
- Must have completed their first year of studies at IUBH
- Can apply to study abroad at a partner university with which IUBH has a signed and valid ERASMUS agreement for their study programme
- Can receive ERASMUS+ support for up 12 months in any of the stages of the study cycle (bachelor, master, doctorate)
- Individual student mobilities to other European countries can range from between 3 to 12 months in length
- Students can expect to have the courses studied abroad academically recognized and transferred within defined learning agreements
- Students will be exempt from tuition fees at the hosting university
- Students will benefit from financial support for additional costs abroad
- Special grants are available for students with children
- Special grants are available for student with disabilities
All rights and obligations of ERASMUS+ student mobility are outlined in the ERASMUS+ Student Charter which all participating students are provided with prior to their studies abroad.
IUBH Students wishing to apply to go abroad within the ERASMUS+ programme should contact the IUBH International Office about processes, required forms and important points of consideration.

Language skills - Mandatory Language Tests and Online Linguistic Support:
In recognition of the importance of language skill development within international student mobility (NOT as part of the selection criteria), the ERASMUS+ programme has introduced mandatory online language tests for participating students to determine language improvement throughout the study abroad period. Students are required to complete this language test in the main working language of their programme (this does not necessarily have to be the first language of the host country) both before the mobility period and at the conclusion of their studies abroad. Currently these language tests are available for German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Swedish, Danish, Greek, Polish and Portugese. In assessing the outcome of these language tests before and after student mobilities the European Commission aims to measure the impact of living and studying abroad on students' language skills.
Furthermore as per availability of licenses granted to the sending institution / IUBH, Online Linguistic Support is given in the form of free online language courses for participating students. Detailed information is available online at: http://erasmusplusols.eu/
Incoming mobilities require formal nomination through IUBH partner institutions in the first instance - usually through the International Offices of our partner universities. Students interested in studying at IUBH for an ERASMUS+ exchange semester or year should therefore contact the International Office of their home institution first. Key information about application processes, admission and language requirements, assistance provided and responsible IUBH departments is made available to partner universities and can be obtained directly from the IUBH International Office. This includes access to information about academics and courses offered for any given academic year.
Incoming ERASMUS+ student deadlines are the general application deadlines: May 1st for the winter semester and November 1st for the subsequent summer semester.
The ERASMUS+ programme also funds (teaching) staff mobility between European partner institutions that hold a valid ECHE. Participation is intended to strengthen existing partnerships, share knowledge and best-practice and otherwise engage in activities to the mutual benefit of both institutions in terms of internationalization and development of the European dimension. In this context the following applies:
- The mobility must take place to a programme country which is not the primary country of residence of the participant.
- The duration can range from a minimum of two days to up to two months (60 days) - excluding travel time - teaching mobilities must comprise a minimum of 8 teaching hours per mobility.
- Mobility participants must be contractually employed at their home institution/IUBH
Staff mobilities require the endorsement of the department / faculty head and invitations from partner institutions. Further information can be obtained at the IUBH International Office on request.
