Your future - your career opportunities
Graduates of the "Audit & Taxation" study programme will predominantly be employed in national and international taxation and auditing companies and in consulting firms. Employment opportunities are also available in the corresponding departments of large businesses. After graduation students need to select the occupational field they wish to focus on in the medium term: auditing or tax consulting. As these occupational fields overlap to a great extent, it is quite common to start a career as a certified tax consultant and later continue as an auditor/certified public accountant. Both careers necessitate successfully passing the professional exam. A certain amount of work experience after graduation is required to be admitted to the professional exam.
Graduates seeking a career as a certified tax consultant face a variety of different tasks including:
- Consulting in legal structuring options: anticipatory consulting to optimize tax burden: How should companies invest and economize to keep the tax burden as low as possible?
- Filing of tax returns: set up tax returns and check tax assessments
- Appealing against tax assessments: consult the taxpayer in appeals against tax assessments
- Business consulting: performance analysis, planning measures on a strategic and operational level, planning investments and restructuring
The scope of activities within a career as auditor/certified public accountant involves the following:
- Audit activity: conducting all types of business audits especially the annual statutory audit
- Tax consulting: tax consulting and representing in all fields covered by a tax consultant
- Providing expertise: furnishing an opinion, e.g. a business valuation
- Fiduciary activity: occupation as e.g. executor, administrator of a person's or company's estate, trustee, insolvency administrator, or liquidator
