Tourism Management

After my graduation I decided to study. However, I was not too sure which subject and which university would be the right choice. I just knew that I wanted to study in a subject which is exciting and extraordinary. Since my early childhood I have always liked to travel around the world. Therefore I wanted to combine my passion for travelling with my future study programme.

I did a lot of research to find the right study programme which requires qualities like self confidence or open-mindedness and is compatible with my preference to travel. In addition, it was important for me to find a study programme providing excellent prospects for my career. Finally, I found the perfect study programme which combines all my qualities and my personal interests: Tourism Management at IUBH.

Very quickly I arranged an appointment with the study advisory service. In a personal course guidance session I could discuss all my questions face-to-face. After this meeting I made the decision to study at IUBH. To be on the safe side I also attended to the so called “Buddy Day”. During that day I met a lot of students and by asking them many questions I could get a good impression what I could expect from my studies. In order to convince my parents that this university was the right one for me, my parents and I also visited the “Open Campus Day”.

Today I am studying in the 5th semester Tourism Management at IUBH in Bad Honnef. At present, I am in my second internship and within just a few months I will do my bachelor abroad. For my first internship I went to Spain. Since I have been learning Spanish since my first semester I wanted to do my internship in this country not only to develop my language skills, but also to combine theory and practice in tourism products.

In a face to face meeting with the staff of the career service department I expressed my wishes concerning my internship. From that day on the staff of the career service sent me mails with different offers from several companies. After a short time, I got a very interesting offer and I applied for it. It turned out that the company has been offering internships to IUBH students for many years.

Four months later one of my fellow students and I left Germany and started our internship in La Palma. There we could work, live and develop our language skills for six months. In my opinion, this internship abroad not only helped me to develop my language skills, but also provided me information what is important to work abroad. Furthermore I gained an insight in several tourism products.

Well, in a few months I will do my bachelor abroad and the preparations are in full swing. Contrary to my friends who are studying at public universities and want study abroad I am very happy with the way my university prepares me for this time.

Thanks to the close contact between IUBH and its partner universities all over the globe organisation and communication works very smoothly.

To sum up, I would like to say that I am very happy with my choice of degree. Studying Tourism Management at IUBH is fun and the combination of exciting lectures, internships and studying abroad prepares me very well for my future career.
