HDV Prize 2010

Receiving the Association of Hotel Directors Research Price Hospitality in the category scientific-theoretical oriented theses in 2010 was a special award for my bachelor thesis, which I have written about the value of using empowerment as a method to work motivation during my year abroad at the University of Brighton.

The participation in this academic contest allowed me to actively engage in a discussion with the experienced and successful general managers of the Association of Hotel General Managers (HDV). This gave me the opportunity to understand their perspective concerning the topic and to learn from their valuable experience.

The awards ceremony took place within the setting of a festive gala evening during this year's spring council of the Association of Hotel General Managers (HDV) in the Grand Hotel Esplanade in Berlin. The HDV council, which was held under the overall theme "future", involved three very remarkable presentations from well-respected industry keynote speakers.

At the festive award ceremony remaining enthralling until the very end, I remember being particularly excited about winning the first place in the scientific-theoretical oriented award category. Sponsored by the HDV, Progos Einkaufsgesellschaft and Micros Fidelio, the award enabled me taking part in financial classes during the Professional Development Program at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA. The time that I was able to spend during the PDP Program at Cornell University was fantastic and extremely beneficial for my future career in the hospitality industry.

Apart from the invaluable extensive knowledge, which I acquired in the courses, I left with many wonderful, interesting and precious memories in addition to an extended network of contacts and friends that I will cherish forever. It was an extraordinary experience and I am grateful to the members of the HDV for making this possible.
