Programm characteristics
The "Tax & Audit Consulting" Bachelor programme qualifies you for a career in international tax consulting, auditing, and management consulting.
During their studies, students acquire profound academic knowledge taught in a goal- and practice-oriented manner. The language of tuition is predominantly English, however tax law courses are taught in English and German. Students gain an understanding of the national tax system in German and learn to explain fiscal issues to English-speaking clients.
Courses in taxation and auditing are taught in a systematic and analytical way thus qualifying our students to keep their knowledge up-to-date in a consistent manner. Furthermore, the programme's practice-oriented approach enables them to work in teams and actively participate in team discussions in the auditing and tax consulting industry immediately after graduation.
Recommendations from the auditing and tax consulting industry constitute the basis of the curriculum. It provides students with an elaborate basis to successfully pass the professional exam in auditing and tax consulting.
In courses on taxation law, students learn how to apply their academic knowledge to real-life situations in a systematic and structured way. Students become familiar with the office and accounting software DATEV and learn how to handle it effectively. They gain an understanding of a tax consultant's declarative tasks with the aid of DATEV and check anonymous authentic tax assessment notices.
In those courses focusing on auditing, students gain a deeper understanding of the various tasks of an auditor and discuss them step-by-step on the basis of examples taken from the business world. Students work continuously with case studies and become acquainted with modern audit software.
Internships
A 5-6 month internship in the 4th semester enables students to apply their academic knowledge in a working environment. The internship can be in Germany or abroad representing a very important strategic element of the studies allowing students to establish first business contacts within the industry and to make a first impression on prospective employers.
Project studies
The 7th semester includes an internship in the form of project studies at a company within the auditing & tax consulting industry. Over a period of 13 weeks, students consolidate their academic knowledge in a hands-on way and complete their profile and qualification. The project studies further serve to provide students with valuable ideas for their Bachelor-thesis and to clear the way for a smooth job entry on the basis of established business contacts.
Semester abroad
A full semester abroad at a partner university of the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef · Bonn (IUBH) is an integral part of the study programme. The Portland State University, Oregon, USA, is the partner university within the "Tax & Audit Consulting" programme. During their semester abroad, students deepen their knowledge primarily in the field of International Accounting and gain intercultural experience.
